Fox News reporter fires back after former colleague Pete Hegseth calls her ‘the worst’
Of all the criticism Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth lobbed at the media over its coverage of the U.S. strikes on three Iranian nuclear facilities during a Thursday morning news conference, his most biting critique was directed at Fox News reporter Jennifer Griffin.
Griffin, the outlet’s chief national security correspondent based at the Pentagon, challenged Hegseth’s claim that the U.S. set back Iran’s nuclear program by years.
“Do you have certainty that all the highly enriched uranium was inside the Fordow mountain or some of it, because there were satellite photos that showed more than a dozen trucks there two days in advance. Are you certain none of that highly enriched uranium was moved?” Griffin asked the defense secretary.
Hegseth, a former “Fox & Friends” weekend co-host, claimed the media’s distaste for President Donald Trump has fueled negative press over the strikes’ efficacy.
He went after his former colleague’s credibility.
“Of course we’re watching every single aspect. But Jennifer, you’ve been about the worst, the one who misrepresents the most intentionally what the president says,” Hegseth said.
Griffin defended her reporting.
“I was the first to report about the ventilation shafts on Saturday night. And, in fact, I was the first to describe the B-2 bombers, the refueling, the entire mission, with great accuracy. So I take issue with that,” Griffin said.
Hegseth then reiterated his claim that the strikes were “the most complex and secretive military operation in history.”
“I appreciate you acknowledging that this is the most successful mission based on operational security that this department has done since you’ve been here,” the secretary told Griffin, “and I appreciate that.”
