Fourth suspect arrested in Mobile shooting that critically wounded boy

A fourth suspect has been arrested in last month’s shooting at a Mobile apartment complex that critically wounded a 6-year-old boy, police said Wednesday.

Myasia Pettway, 21, is the fourth person arrested in the Aug. 15 shooting at the Summer Place Apartments on Azalea Road, said Cpl. Katrina Frazier.

At the scene, police found the child inside an apartment, suffering from multiple apparent gunshot wounds.

The 6-year-old boy was transported to a local hospital with what police described at the time as life-threatening injuries. The child was immediately taken into surgery and was listed in critical but stable condition.

In the immediate wake of the shooting, Mobile Police Chief Paul Prine said the attack was not random, but the child was not the target.

Three teens — Zaire Hughes and Jamayal Williams, both 19, and 18-year-old Deante Jenkins — were arrested in connection with the shooting.

Hughes was charged with first-degree assault and shooting into an occupied dwelling.

Charges were not released for the other suspects.
