Four men arrested in $200,000 Alabama lottery scam

Four men were arrested in Foley today by federal agents after allegedly participating in a lottery scam that defrauded people out of $200,000.

According to the Department of Justice, the four men were identified as Peter Walcott, Malik Chambers, Romario Nembhard and Jermaine Smith.

All of the men are either current or former residents of Baldwin County and are Jamaican nationals in the country legally, according to court documents.

The documents allege that the men received over 100 shipments of cash from victims, many elderly, totaling $200,000 from February 2020 to August 2023.

The victims, from across the country, believed they had won the lottery and were told to pay “taxes” by sending cash to fake names and addresses the four men controlled.

The four men are being charged with mail fraud, wire fraud, and conspiracy to commit mail and wire fraud.

The men face a maximum of 20 years in prison if convicted.
