Former wife of Alabama man charged with child sex crimes arrested for child abuse
A DeKalb County woman was arrested Thursday on six grand jury indictments for child abuse, seven months after her husband’s arrest for child sex crimes.
Sheriff Nick Welden said Jessica Lindsey Nation, 36, of Crossville, faces charges of three counts of abuse of child torture/willful, and three counts of aggravated child abuse.
Welden said the arrests came after an investigation by the sheriff’s office, along with the Alabama Department of Human Resources, on allegations of abuse and neglect, reported in 2021.
WHNT is reporting Nation is the ex-wife of Steven Nation, who was arrested last August 23 on multiple child sex charges.
Steven Nation faces two counts of first degree sodomy, five counts of sexual abuse of a child younger than 12 and four counts of indecent exposure, three counts of first degree sexual abuse, three counts of second degree sexual abuse, three counts of willful torture/abuse of a child and three counts of aggravated child abuse.
According to court documents, the charges center around three children ranging in ages from 16 to 11.
He is currently being held in the DeKalb County Jail on $1.37 million bond.
“We appreciate everyone that helped with this arrest,” Welden said of Jessica Nation’s arrest. “Protecting our children will forever be our main focus. Our youth is our future, we have to stand strong in protecting them.”
