Former Walker County volleyball coach pleads guilty to sexually abusing 13-year-old girl during tournament

A former volleyball coach has pleaded guilty to the sexual abuse of a teen girl in a bathroom stall during a tournament in Trussville.

Dakoda Bhreann Mauldin, a 34-year-old Walker County woman, was initially charged in 2020 with a school employee engaging in a sex act with a student under the age of 19.

On Wednesday, Mauldin pleaded guilty to second-degree sexual abuse before Jefferson County Circuit Judge Alaric May.

She received a 10-year suspended sentence with three years of probation. She is now a registered sex offender for the rest of her life.

Jefferson County Deputy District Attorney Dain Stewart prosecuted the case. Mauldin was represented by attorney Justin Forrester.

Trussville police investigated the case.

Authorities at the time of Mauldin’s arrest said a 13-year-old girl reported to them that Mauldin assaulted her in the bathroom during a Sept. 19, 2020, volleyball tournament at Hewitt-Trussville High School.

Mauldin, who was 29 at the time, according to the girl, pushed her into a bathroom stall and kissed her on the mouth. She also was said to have texted photos of herself to the girl and professed her love to her.

Mauldin at the time worked at a contract coach at Jasper High School but is no longer affiliated with the school system.
