Former Tide DL enrolls at Miami days before Week 1 kickoff, likely ineligible
A former Alabama defensive tackle has found a new home. Multiple outlets reported Wednesday afternoon that Jamil Burroughs has enrolled at the University of Miami.
Burroughs had 15 total tackles with two sacks across 20 career games in Tuscaloosa. He mainly worked as a rotational piece on the Tide’s defensive front, producing 10 quarterback hurries in 11 games last fall.
Burroughs entered the portal on June 30 and reportedly got into a physical interaction with Alabama director of player development Josh Chapman earlier in the summer. 247Sports Gaby Urrutia was the first to report Burroughs’ latest jump.
A native of Powder Springs, Ga., Burroughs will join former teammate Javion Cohen with the Hurricanes and former Nick Saban assistant Mario Cristobal. Because Burroughs entered the portal after the April 30 deadline, he will need an NCAA waiver to be eligible this season.
“I’m not mentioning any names, but there’s only like one player that I was really like disappointed that the guy didn’t stay here, and I couldn’t understand why he was leaving,” Saban said about Alabama’s 18 departures last week, “And all the rest of them, they would have contributed if they stayed and had the right attitude, but it’s their choice.”
Miami opens the season with Miami-Ohio on Friday night at 6 p.m. The Tide host Middle Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday.
