Former SEC head coach hired for same job at Purdue
Barry Odom has been hired as head football coach at Purdue, it was announced Sunday.
The 48-year-old Odom has spent the last two seasons at UNLV, where he is 19-8 in two seasons. Prior to that, he was defensive coordinator at Arkansas from 2020-22 and head coach at Missouri, where he went 25-25 from 2016-19.
Odom replaces Ryan Walters, who went 5-19 in two seasons. The Boilermakers were 1-11 this season and 0-9 in the Big Ten, the worst record of any power conference team in the country.
Odom played linebacker at Missouri in the late 1990s, and was an assistant there under Gary Pinkel from 2003-2011 and was defensive coordinator in 2015. He was defensive coordinator at Memphis from 2012-14.
