Former SEC assistant coach dead at 59
Former LSU assistant football coach Steve Kragthorpe died Sunday night.
Louisville and LSU spokespeople confirmed the news to the Courier Journal.
The former Louisville football coach, 59, was the LSU offensive coordinator was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease in 2011, but he stepped down to move into an analyst role.
Kragthorpe went 15-21 as the Cardinals’ head coach (2007-09). Prior to arriving at Louisville, Kragthorpe coached at Tulsa for four seasons (2003-06).
Kragthorpe’s coaching career began at Northern Arizona in 1990 and had assistant stints at North Texas, Boston College, Texas A&M and with the NFL’s Buffalo Bills.
He landed his first coaching job with Tulsa in 2003 before spending three seasons at Louisville. Kragthorpe was then hired as LSU’s offensive coordinator in 2011.
