Former Pleasant Grove High School teacher, coach accused of sexual contact with student

A former Pleasant Grove High School teacher and coach has been charged with a felony crime involving sexual contact with a student.

Alex James Reedy, 28, is charged with school employee having sexual contact with a student under the age of 19, according to court records made public Friday.

Reedy was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 11:08 a.m. Thursday and released at 3:19 p.m. after posting $10,000 bond.

Authorities said Reedy was fired prior to the criminal charges being filed against him.

Pleasant Grove Police Chief Danny Reid said Jefferson County Schools’ school resource officers notified police about an incident involving a student. No additional details were released.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Reedy graduated from Pleasant Grove High School where he was a student-athlete in 2014, and then from UAB in 2019.

He started with Pleasant Grove High School in 2020 as a social studies teacher.
