Former Mobile prep star rejoins Jets for $4.3 million
New York Jets defensive end Bryce Huff has re-signed with the team as a restricted free agent, according to Thursday’s NFL transactions report.
Huff will be paid $4.304 million for the 2023 season.

A prep standout at St. Paul’s Episcopal in Mobile, Huff made the Jets’ regular-season roster as an undrafted rookie from Memphis in 2020 and signed a three-year, $2.3 million contract.
As a player with three years of experience and an expiring contract, Huff was eligible to become a restricted free agent instead of an unrestricted free agent if the Jets made him a qualifying offer by March 15. New York did that by placing a second-round tender on Huff.
Friday was the deadline for Huff to negotiate with other NFL teams. If Huff had gotten a better contract offer, the Jets would have had the option of matching it or receiving a second-round draft choice from the team that signed the defensive end.
According to the NFL’s Next Gen Stats, Huff led the NFL in pressure percentage for players with at least 150 pass rushes during the 2022 season.
During the 2022 season, Huff had 191 defensive snaps and 161 special-teams plays in 14 games and recorded 3.5 sacks and 10 quarterback hits. He has 7.5 sacks in 37 NFL games.
The Jets began their offseason program on Monday.
