Former LSU star Kyren Lacy has died, reports say
Former LSU wide receiver Kyren Lacy has died, according to multiple reports in Louisiana. He was 24.
Lacy was facing charges of negligent homicide, felony hit-and-run and reckless operation of a vehicle in connection with a Dec. 17 wreck near Thibodaux, La., that killed a 78-year-old man and injured two others. Grand jury testimony in the case was reportedly set to begin on Monday.
Baton Rouge television station WBRZ is reporting that Lacy’s death is being investigated as a possible suicide.
Lacy played three seasons at LSU after transferring from Louisiana, and declared for the NFL draft in mid-December. Two days later came the wreck, in which Lacy was accused of “recklessly passed multiple vehicles at a high rate of speed by crossing the centerline and entering the northbound lane while in a designated No-Passing Zone” while driving a 2023 Dodge Charger.
A northbound pick-up truck swerved to avoid a collision with Lacy’s vehicle, police said, and a Kia Cadenza traveling behind the pickup truck crossed the center line and collided head-on with a southbound Kia Sorrento in which Herman Hall — who later died at a local hospital — was a passenger. According to police, Lacy allegedly drove around the crash scene and fled, and “did not stop to render aid, call emergency services or report his involvement in the crash.”
Lacy’s legal troubles cost him spots in the Reese’s Senior Bowl and NFL Combine, though he did participate in LSU’s Pro Day. In five college seasons, he totaled 162 receptions for 2,360 yards and 26 touchdowns — nine of them in 2024.
