Former Lipscomb city manager, council member allegedly embezzled more than $200,000 from city
The former Lipscomb city manager has been arrested, accused of embezzling more than $200,000 from the city.
Jacquelyn Yvette Robertson, 36, is charged with aggravated theft by deception and use of official position for person gain.
Robertson’s arrest followed grand jury indictments issued by a Bessemer Cutoff grand jury in November 2022. It wasn’t immediately clear why she wasn’t arrested until this week.
Robertson, who is also a former Lipscomb city council member, was booked into the Jefferson County Jail at 10:45 a.m. Wednesday and released at 1:41 p.m. the same day after posting bonds totaling $30,000.
The Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office launched an investigation after city officials discovered missing funds, confirmed Lt. Joni Money. Robertson is accused of overpaying herself and ordering items from various vendors for personal use.
According to charging documents against Robertson, the alleged crimes took place between August 2020 and May 2021.
Robertson did not respond to a request for comment. Efforts to reach her attorney weren’t immediately successful.
