A top transfer target for Bruce Pearl and Auburn is nearing a decision.

Former Florida State wing Matthew Cleveland plans to announce his transfer destination Sunday, according to a post he made on Twitter on Friday afternoon. Cleveland will decide from a top-three of Auburn, Miami and Missouri.

Cleveland is a former five-star prospect and Atlanta native who was recruited by Auburn out of high school before he ultimately signed with Florida State as part of its 2021 recruiting class. He was rated as the No. 25 player in the country and the seventh-best wing in that cycle coming out of Pace Academy, according to the 247Sports Composite rankings.

The 6-foot-7 Cleveland averaged a team-best 13.8 points per game for the Seminoles last season while shooting 44.5 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc. Cleveland also pulled down 7.4 rebounds per game and averaged 1.8 assists while starting all 30 games in which he played for FSU. He was one of the few bright spots for the Seminoles during a rare down season for the program, which experienced its first losing campaign under longtime coach Leonard Hamilton since 2004-05. Cleveland’s breakout sophomore campaign came on the heels of earning ACC Sixth Man of the Year as a freshman during the 2021-22 season, when he averaged 11.5 points, 4.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists off the bench for the Seminoles.

Cleveland entered the transfer portal on April 11.

Along with being a native of Atlanta — where Auburn has enjoyed much success in landing top-tier talent and developing it for the next level in recent years under Pearl — Cleveland was an AAU teammate of former Auburn star Jabari Smith, the National Freshman of the Year, consensus All-American and No. 3 overall pick in last year’s NBA Draft.

Auburn has already added three pieces to its new-look roster for next season, including a pair of transfers in Florida International two-guard Denver Jones and UAH forward Chaney Johnson, both of whom signed with the Tigers last month. Auburn is also bringing in five-star freshman Aden Holloway, a McDonald’s All-American who is the second-highest rated signee in program history.
