Former Auburn WR, Central-Phenix City alum commits to in-state program out of transfer portal

Former Auburn wide receiver and Central-Phenix City alum Dylan Gentry is headed to Jacksonville State, he announced on social media.

The move will reunite Gentry with Charles Kelly, who was the defensive coordinator at Auburn last season and has taken over as the head coach at Jax State.

He received offers from Florida A&M and Albany State as a 3-star prospect out of Central-Phenix City, but committed to Auburn and joined the roster as a preferred walk-on at receiver, reuniting with teammate Cam Coleman.

Last season saw the 5-foot-9, 151-pound appear in one game for Auburn, which was the season opener against Alabama A&M.

As a senior for Central-Phenix City, he hauled in 29 receptions for 540 yards and seven touchdowns as the Red Devils claimed the Class 7A state title with a 21-19 win over Thompson in Tuscaloosa; he caught two passes for 36 yards in the state title game.

Gentry is the third commitment for Jax State out of the NCAA transfer portal in the last week, joining offensive lineman Adrian Gumm (Tusculum), defensive lineman Isaac Walker (Georgia Southern) and defensive back Jacarvis Alexandre (Ferris State).
