Former Auburn women’s basketball coach hired to be assistant coach at Baylor
Auburn’s former head women’s basketball coach has already found a new home.
Johnnie Harris was officially announced as Baylor’s associate head coach Wednesday, just under a month after she was fired at Auburn.
Harris spent four seasons at Auburn, compiling a record of 58-63 during her tenure on the Plains. Auburn finished the 2024-2025 season 12-18, falling to Florida in the first round of the Southeastern Conference Tournament.
The firing came just one year removed from Harris leading Auburn to the NCAA tournament for the first time since 2019. Auburn dealt with injuries for much of the 2024-2025 season, highlighted by high-scoring transfer guard, Taliah Scott, only playing three games due to a wrist injury.
Scott will join Harris in Waco, officially signing with the Bears out of the transfer portal on March 31.
Harris will now join head coach Nicki Collen’s staff at Baylor. The Bears finished the 2024-2025 season 28-8, falling to Ole Miss in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
Auburn replaced Harris with former Norfolk State head coach Larry Vickers, who was hired on March 23. Vickers led the Spartans to a 174-91 record during his nine years as head coach, including making the NCAA tournament in each of the past three seasons.
