Former Auburn strength coach hired at Idaho State
Another former Auburn assistant has landed on his feet with an FCS program.
Jeff Pitman, who served as Auburn’s strength and conditioning coach under former head coach Bryan Harsin, was named to the same role at Idaho State, the Bengals announced Tuesday afternoon. Pitman was the first official staff hire for Harsin upon his arrival at Auburn in December 2020, and he was among those fired along with Harsin on Oct. 31, as the program cut ties with most of its staffers with ties to Boise State.

Pitman worked with Harsin at Boise State for seven seasons prior to taking the Auburn job. Before that, he worked with Harsin at Arkansas State in 2013. Pitman was also Boise State’s strength coach from 1999-2006.
Between his first stop at Boise State and his time working under Harsin at Arkansas State, Boise State and Auburn, Pitman worked at Colorado from 2007-10 and then at Western Carolina during the 2011 and 2012 seasons.
Pitman was a three-year letterman at Boise State from 1990-92 after starting his career as a walk-on for the Broncos in 1988. He eventually earned a scholarship and started at center for two seasons. In 1992, Pitman was recognized as an NSCA Strength and Conditioning All-American, making him at the time just one of just 10 players in Boise State history to win the award.
He graduated from Boise State with a degree in health promotion in 1993 and then served as a graduate assistant strength and conditioning coach at Minnesota, where he earned a master’s degree in education in 1995. Pitman’s first full-time position at the college level came at Montana State, where he served as strength coach from 1995-97. From 1997-99, Pitman was a strength coach at San Jose State before returning to Boise State.
Pitman is the latest former Auburn assistant to land a new job. Former defensive coordinator Jeff Schmedding is set to join Washington State in the same capacity, while linebackers coach Christian Robinson was hired to the same role at Baylor last month, edge coach/special teams coordinator Roc Bellantoni was named defensive coordinator at Florida Atlantic, and former offensive line coach/interim co-offensive coordinator Will Friend was hired for a to-be-determined position at Mississippi State.
