Former Auburn standout returns to NBA after almost 2 years
Guard Sharife Cooper is joining the Cleveland Cavaliers on a 10-day contract, the NBA team announced on Monday.
Cooper played for the Cavaliers’ NBA 2K24 Summer League championship team in July and went to training camp with Cleveland. But the former Auburn standout has spent the 2023-24 season with the Cavaliers’ NBA G League affiliate, the Cleveland Charge.
For the Charge, Cooper has averaged 18.1 points, 3.9 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.5 steals in 34 games this season.
Cooper’s previous NBA experience consists of 13 games with the Atlanta Hawks in the 2021-22 NBA season. In 39 minutes on the court, he had seven points, five rebounds and five assists. Cooper most recently appeared in an NBA regular-season game on April 10, 2022.
The 48th player picked in the 2021 NBA Draft after averaging 20.2 points per game in his only season at Auburn, Cooper signed a two-way contract with the Hawks and also played with Atlanta’s G League affiliate, the College Park Skyhawks.
Cooper went to training camp in 2022 with the Cavaliers, but he spent the 2022-23 season with the Charge. He was an All-NBA G League second-team selection, and he played in the 2023 NBA G League Next Up Game during the NBA All-Star Weekend in Salt Lake City.
In 113 G League games in three seasons, Cooper has averaged 19.9 points, 3.7 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.2 steals.
