Former Auburn linebacker gets fussed at by teammate, then fined by NFL

First Derick Hall got fussed at. Then the former Auburn linebacker got fined.

The NFL announced on Saturday at it had fined the Seattle Seahawks outside linebacker $11,510 for an unnecessary-roughness penalty for a late hit on quarterback Josh Allen during Sunday’s 31-10 loss to the Buffalo Bills.

Hall’s penalty with 38 seconds left in the first half prompted Seattle defensive tackle Jarran Reed to get nose-to-nose with Hall on the field. They got into a dustup on the sideline, too, before the pair were seen talking more calmly along the Seahawks bench.

The former Alabama standout addressed the situation with Hall during his press conference on Wednesday.

“For one, emotions are in football, right?” Reed said. “We talked about what Josh Allen could do all week with the flopping and everything. And it was, like, a bonehead play, but I just wanted to let him know that we can’t do that in that time. That was a critical play, a critical time in the game. When you do stuff like that, it leads to explosives. That’s what we’re trying to eliminate. So that’s all we was talking about.

“All the other extracurricular activities, that’s just being two guys who care about football. Look, Dee Hall is my guy. He’s one of my friends on this team. Our parents are cool. We’re still cool. There’s no love lost. It just happens. We talked about it right afterwards. We’re just two alpha males. Everybody out there is an alpha male, and it happens. You’ve got to move on and keep playing. That’s what we did.”

Three other players from Alabama high schools and colleges were fined by the NFL for on-the-field actions in Week 8 games:

· Las Vegas Raiders cornerback Jakorian Bennett (McGill-Toolen) was fined $6,227 for a hip-drop tackle on Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy in a 27-20 loss. Bennett was not penalized on the play.

· Cleveland Browns linebacker Mohamoud Diabate (Auburn High School) was fined $5,130 for a face-mask penalty in a 29-24 victory over the Baltimore Ravens.

· New York Jets linebacker Jamien Sherwood (Auburn) was fined $6,354 for unnecessary roughness (use of helmet) for a tackle on New England Patriots quarterback Drake Maye in a 25-22 loss. Sherwood was not penalized on the play.

The NFL uses a collectively bargained schedule of fines to determine the amount of monetary punishment. The NFL’s Schedule of Fines also comes with a list of aggravating and mitigating factors that can affect the size of a fine.
