Former Auburn head coach Bryan Harsin hired as ACC offensive coordinator, report says

Bryan Harsin is returning to college football as offensive coordinator at California, according to a report Monday by ESPN’s Chris Low and Adam Rittenberg.

The 48-year-old Harsin had been out of coaching since being fired as Auburn’s head coach in October 2022. His name surfaced last week in connection with the head-coaching job at Utah State, but the Aggies instead hired New Mexico’s Bronco Mendenhall.

In addition to head coaching stints at Auburn (2021-22), Boise State (2014-20) and Arkansas State (2013), Harsin has also been offensive coordinator at Boise State (2006-10) and Texas (2010-11). He played quarterback at Boise State from 1995-99.

At Cal, Harsin will reunite with head coach Justin Wilcox, who was Boise State’s defensive coordinator from 2006-09. Wilcox announced last week the Bears were moving on from Mike Bloesch, the team’s offensive coordinator the last two seasons.

Cal is 6-6 this season, its first as a member of the ACC. The Bears face UNLV in the Art of Sport LA Bowl in Inglewood, Calif., in on Dec. 18.
