Former Auburn defensive lineman makes All-XFL team

Former Auburn standout DaVonte Lambert of the Arlington Renegades is a member of the All-XFL team for the 2023 season.

Although Arlington has reached Saturday’s XFL Championship Game, Lambert was the only member of the Renegades to make the All-XFL team, which was announced on Monday. The D.C. Defenders, Arlington’s opponent in the title game, placed seven players on the All-XFL team.

The All-XFL team was chosen by the league’s head coaches and directors of player personnel.

Lambert had been out of football since 2020 before returning with the XFL this season.

A starter at defensive end in 2014 and 2015 at Auburn after transferring from Georgia Military College, Lambert made the Tampa Bay Buccaneers’ regular-season roster as an undrafted rookie in 2016 and played 375 defensive snaps in 11 games, with five starts for the NFL team.

Lambert sustained a dislocated wrist during the Bucs’ third preseason game in 2017 and missed the entire regular season. In 2018, Tampa Bay released Lambert at the end of the preseason, and he was out of football in 2019.

In 2020, Lambert played for the St. Louis BattleHawks of the XFL until the spring football league canceled its season because of the coronavirus pandemic. But that led the Carolina Panthers to sign Lambert during their offseason program.

Lambert didn’t make the regular-season roster coming out of training camp and had been out of football until joining Arlington.

The Renegades and Defenders will square off for the XFL championship at 7 p.m. CDT Saturday at the Alamodome in San Antonio. ABC will televise the game.

The XFL’s other postseason awards included:

· Coach of the Year: Reggie Barlow, D.C. Defenders
