Former Auburn defensive lineman joins Denver Broncos

Former Auburn defensive lineman Angelo Blackson is signing with the Denver Broncos for his 10th NFL season.

Blackson will sign a one-year contract with the Broncos, KUSA-TV in Denver and the Denver Post reported on Monday before the team had announced the transaction.

Broncos defensive coordinator Vance Joseph was the Arizona defensive coordinator when Blackson played for the Cardinals in 2020. Blackson matched his career high with 2.5 sacks that season.

Only two NFL defenses yielded more rushing yards last season than did Denver’s.

Although he joined Jacksonville only days before the 2023 season, Blackson played in 11 games with the Jaguars. He played 215 defensive snaps and had 13 tackles, two tackles for loss and three fumble recoveries.

Following four seasons at Auburn, Blackson entered the NFL as a fourth-round selection of the Tennessee Titans in the 2015 draft. After two seasons with the Titans, Blackson was on the New England Patriots’ practice squad when the Houston Texans signed him for the final nine games of the 2017 season.

Blackson played in every game in 2018 and started 15 regular-season and two playoff games in 2019, but the Texans still released him at the end of the preseason in 2020.

Blackson signed with the Cardinals five days before the 2020 season kicked off. He still played in every Arizona game and made nine starts.

Blackson signed a two-year, $5.5 million contract with the Chicago Bears in 2021 as a free agent.

After 32 games and 12 starts with Chicago in two seasons, Blackson signed with the Baltimore Ravens for the 2023 campaign. But Baltimore released Blackson on Aug. 29. Two days, later he joined Jacksonville.
