Former Auburn defensive back DJ James becomes second Tiger to accept invite to NFL Combine
Auburn will be represented by at least two players in the 2024 NFL Scouting Combine on Feb. 27 to March 4 as former Auburn defensive back DJ James has accepted his invite, Auburn football announced Friday.
James will join fellow former Auburn defensive back Jaylin Simpson at Indianapolis’ Lucas Oil Stadium for the NFL Scouting Combine, which is an invite-only event that allows NFL scouts to evaluate some of the top draft-eligible players in the country.
James’ invite to the combine comes after his 2023 campaign, which saw him tally 38 total tackles, two interceptions and log 12 pass breakups. James was also responsible for the game-saving tackle against Cal on Sept. 9, stopping the Golden Bears’ potential game-winning drive with 1:44 to play.
After getting his college start at Oregon, James transferred to Auburn ahead of the 2022 season. In two seasons with the Tigers, James has logged a total of 75 tackles, three interceptions and 21 pass breakups.
James officially declared for the 2024 NFL Draft in a post to social media on Dec. 29, days before opting out of Auburn’s Music City Bowl matchup against Maryland.
Ahead of participating in the NFL Combine, James will also join Simpson in competing in the Reese’s Senior Bowl on Feb. 3.
