Former Auburn cornerbacks sidelined to start Seattle Seahawks’ training camp
D.J. James and Nehemiah Pritchett, a pair of cornerbacks drafted from Auburn by the Seattle Seahawks in April, are opening their first NFL training camp on the non-football injury list.
Seattle announced on Thursday that James and Pritchett had been designated as active/NFI after the team’s rookies reported for training camp on Wednesday.
The Seahawks did not provide details on the defensive backs’ injuries. But because they carry the active designation, the players can begin practicing with the team as soon as they are medically cleared.
The non-football injury list is for players sidelined by injuries or ailments sustained outside of NFL activities.
Seattle’s veteran players are scheduled to report to the Virginia Mason Athletic Center in Renton, Washington, on Tuesday, and the Seahawks will hold their first full practice of training camp on Wednesday.
The Seahawks picked Pritchett in the fifth round and James in the sixth round of the NFL Draft on April 27.
The cornerbacks are former Alabama high school standouts – James at Spanish Fort and Pritchett at Jackson.
Seattle’s depth chart at cornerback already includes returning starters Riq Woolen, who was a Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2022, and Devon Witherspoon, who was a Pro Bowler as a rookie in 2023. The position group also includes former Spain Park High School standout Michael Jackson, who started every game in 2022.
The Seahawks open their three-game preseason schedule on Aug. 10 against the Los Angeles Chargers and kick off their regular-season slate on Sept. 8 against the Denver Broncos.
