Former Auburn coach ‘devastated’ by Chette Williams’ death: ‘Rest easy my friend’

The news of former Auburn linebacker and team chaplain Chette Williams’ death shocked the Auburn community on Monday, and many took to social media to mourn the death of the man affectionately known as “Brother Chette.”

One of those people was former Auburn head football coach Bryan Harsin, who built a relationship with Williams during his season and a half on the plains.

“My family and I are devastated to learn about the passing of Chette Williams. His legacy lives on forever in the countless lives he positively impacted through Auburn & beyond,” Harsin wrote in a post on X (formerly Twitter). “Rest easy my friend, you have finished the race and we are all blessed to have had you in our lives.”

Harsin was hired to be Auburn’s head football coach prior to the 2021 season. Coming from Boise State, he replaced Gus Malzahn who was fired following the 2020 season. Harsin was later fired eight games into the 2022 season, after posting a 9-12 record with the Tigers.

Other former coaches such as Guz Malzahn and Tommy Tuberville also made posts about Williams on X following his death.
