Former Auburn captain hired to coach Jax State’s linebackers
Former Auburn football captain and Pritchard native Deshaun Davis has been hired as Jacksonville State’s linebackers coach, the program announced on Thursday.
He will coach alongside first-year Jax State coach Charles Kelly and former Alabama safety Vinnie Sunseri, who was announced as the Gamecocks’ defensive coordinator on Thursday.
Davis comes to Jacksonville after two seasons as linebackers coach at the University of North Alabama; he got his start coaching as a graduate assistant at UCF in 2022.
A three-year starter for Auburn at linebacker, he played in 52 career games with the Tigers and racked up over 250 total tackles and 29 tackles for loss; he was a first-team All-SEC selection as a senior and earned an invitation to the Reece’s Senior Bowl.
He was later drafted in the sixth round of the 2019 NFL Draft by the Cincinnati Bengals.
A graduate of Vigor High School, he was an all-state player and a member of the AL.com A-List during his time with the Wolves.
