Former Auburn All-American, analyst Kendall Simmons takes O-line job with MTSU

Kendall Simmons, an Auburn analyst and former All-American, is moving up to an offensive line coach position at Middle Tennessee State.

He is joining the staff under new head coach Derek Mason, who was Auburn’s defensive coordinator in 2021 — the two were on the same Auburn staff under head coach Bryan Harsin that season.

Mason was hired last week as the new MTSU head coach.

Simmons briefly served in a full offensive line coach role during the final four games of the 2022 season under interim head coach Cadillac Williams. He will now get his first shot at a full-fledged assistant coaching job.

“I’ve been given the opportunity to be the new Offensive Line Coach at MTSU,” Simmons wrote in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter. “Auburn will always be in my heart. I am thankful for every coach I’ve had the opportunity to work with since 2019 who’ve allowed me to learn and serve in a place I love. I am blessed!”

Simmons started 36 games for Auburn between 1997-2001. He was an All-American and a two-time first team All-SEC pick.

He then went on to an eight-season NFL career from 2002-2009 where he started 83 of 84 games played with the Pittsburgh Steelers, New England Patriots and Buffalo Bills.

Simmons returned to Auburn in 2019 under head coach Gus Malzahn where he has worked until taking the job with Mason at MTSU.
