Former Anniston basketball standout killed in shooting remembered for ‘outstanding personality’

A former basketball standout at Anniston High School was killed in a weekend shooting that also left another person injured.

Anniston police responded about 11:30 p.m. Saturday to a report of a shooting in the 4500 block of McClellan Boulevard.

When they arrived on the scene, they made contact with a 21-year-old man who told them he and his friend were shot while traveling north on McClellan Boulevard.

His friend, 19-year-old Troy Hall, was pronounced dead on the scene. The driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

No arrests have been announced.

Hall was a 2022 graduate of Anniston High School where he played basketball for all four years and was a member of the 2021 State Championship Team.

“Today are hearts are saddened by his death, but he will forever be remembered for his warm smile and outstanding personality,” Coach Torry Brown posted on the Anniston High School Boys Varsity Basketball Facebook page.

“Troy was a son, brother, friend and teammate to many and will always be a part of our Anniston High School basketball family,’’ Brown wrote. “You will forever be missed, and our memories together will be cherished forever. Rest in peace Troy. We love you.”
