Former Alabama WR sounds off about Notre Dame transfer Tyler Buchner
With all eyes on Bryce Young and the NFL Draft on Thursday, Alabama fans got an update on the quarterback situation the former Heisman Trophy winner was leaving behind.
Former Notre Dame quarterback Tyler Buchner, who entered the NCAA transfer portal earlier this week, committed Thursday morning to transfer and play for Nick Saban’s Crimson Tide.
A former Alabama player was among those that reacted to the news.
“We only can run the ball so much you have to be able to throw the ball down field to keep other defenses honest,” former receiver Marquis Maze tweeted. “Coach just told y’all a few days ago that we only go in the portal for guys who can help us immediately! Roll Tide.”
Maze, who played for Alabama from 2008-2011, was also quick to point out the move to acquire Buchner s about making the team – and program – better.
“It’s no disrespect to the QBs we already had, but it was obvious we was missing a guy who could use these guys we have on the outside consistently,” he tweeted. “QB is more than athleticism and a strong arm.”
There was plenty of reaction, of course, including SEC Network analyst Paul Finebaum. Even in the final moments leading up the draft, Saban explained why the Tide wanted Buchner.
