Former Alabama teacher’s aide arrested on child abuse charges
Madison police say a former special education teacher’s aide has been arrested for willful abuse of a child.
According to police, Jamie Lynn Schwab, 55, turned herself in to Madison City Police yesterday on an outstanding warrant.
The charge stems from an ongoing investigation conducted by Madison Police, with the full assistance and cooperation of Madison City Schools, according to police.
Schwab is no longer employed by Madison City Schools.
She was taken to the Madison County Jail, where she was released on $5,000 bond, according to jail records.
According to WAFF, Madison City Schools Superintendent Dr. Edwin Nichols said:
“Madison City Schools takes the safety and well-being of our students very seriously. Madison City Schools is aware that a former paraprofessional aide was taken into custody. When an employee reported possible misconduct by the paraprofessional aide, the District’s administrative team began an internal investigation. During the course of the investigation, the paraprofessional aide resigned her employment. Thereafter, based on the investigation, Madison City Schools reported the alleged misconduct to the Madison Police Department.
“Madison City Schools has followed appropriate steps, met the requirements of state and federal law, appropriately communicated with parents, and ensured the employee was removed from the school setting. Going forward, Madison City Schools will cooperate with the Madison Police Department. Because this is an ongoing criminal investigation, and to protect the privacy of individuals involved, Madison City Schools cannot provide any additional details.
