Former Alabama running back’s third NFL season ends 1 game early
Two former Alabama players had their NFL seasons end early when their teams placed them on injured reserve on Friday.
The Cleveland Browns will close their season on Saturday against the Baltimore Ravens, who will set their seeding and head into the playoffs. But the Browns will play without running back Jerome Ford, and the Ravens won’t have cornerback Jalyn Armour-Davis after those players went to injured reserve on Friday.
Around two injury absences by Nick Chubb, Ford started six games this season, including the past two. But Ford sustained an ankle injury in the Browns’ 20-3 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Saturday.
Ford finishes the season with 565 yards and three touchdowns on 104 rushing attempts, 225 yards on 37 receptions and a 25.9-yard average on 15 kickoff returns.
This is the second time this season that a hamstring injury has landed Armour-Davis on IR. The former St. Paul’s Episcopal star went down the first time after playing in Baltimore’s first three games of the season. He missed four games, returned to play in four games, then sustained another hamstring injury warming up to play against the New York Giants on Dec. 15. Armour-Davis did not play in the Ravens’ previous two games.
Armour-Davis played in seven games, with two starts, in his third NFL season.
With Ford leaving the active roster for injured reserve, the Browns signed former Samford defensive back Chris Edmonds from their practice squad to the 53-man roster, making him eligible to play against Baltimore on Saturday.
Edmonds has played in one regular-season game in his NFL career. Cleveland elevated the safety from its practice squad for its Oct. 13 game against the Philadelphia Eagles, and he was on the field for 10 special-teams plays in a 20-16 loss.
