Former Alabama prep star seals Steelers’ victory

In an NFL game sprinkled with key plays by players with Alabama football roots, Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Kwon Alexander had the last one.

The former Oxford High School star intercepted Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis at the goal line with six seconds to play to seal the Steelers’ 20-16 victory on Thursday night.

An 11-play, 92-yard touchdown drive put Pittsburgh in front by four points with 4:02 to play.

Former Alabama cornerback Levi Wallace broke up a fourth-down pass with 2:06 to play to stop Tennessee’s next series. But the Titans regained possession with 1:44 remaining and moved from their 15-yard line to the Steelers 19 on five Levis completions before Alexander ended the game with his ninth career interception and first since the 2021 season.

Alexander also had two tackles in the game.

After throwing four touchdown passes in his NFL debut on Sunday, Levis completed 22-of-39 passes for 262 yards with no touchdowns and one interception on Thursday night.

Pittsburgh QB Kenny Pickett, whose status was in doubt because of a rib injury, completed 19-of-30 passes for 160 yards with one touchdown and no interceptions. The TD pass was a 3-yard toss to wide receiver Diontae Johnson that gave the Steelers their final lead.

Eight players from Alabama high schools and colleges played in the Tennessee-Pittsburgh game:
