Former Alabama prep star gets worst of it in MLB fight
Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson took one on the chin in a brawl during an American League against the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday night.
The former Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa baseball and basketball star and Guardians third baseman Jose Ramirez got into a fight in the bottom of the sixth inning in Cleveland.
With the Guardians trailing 5-0, Ramirez dropped an RBI double into right field, sliding in safely ahead of the throw to Anderson at second for a two-bagger.
Ramirez seemed to have a problem with Anderson’s tag, and the two players put up their dukes. After pushing one of the umpires from between them, the players exchanged punches, and before being engulfed by the players flooding onto the field, Ramirez landed one on Anderson’s chin, decking the shortstop.
When order was restored, Anderson, Ramirez, Cleveland manager Terry Francona, pitcher Emmanuel Clase (who was not in the game) and third-base coach Mike Sarbaugh and Chicago manager Pedro Grifol were ejected.

Anderson earned All-State baseball honors at Hillcrest High School in 2011. He also helped the Patriots win the AHSAA Class 6A boys’ basketball championship that year.
Alexander is in his eighth MLB season with the White Sox. He was an American League All-Star selection in each of the previous two seasons.
