Former Alabama prep standout, SEC walk-on signs NFL contract
The Kansas City Chiefs announced the signing of 16 undrafted rookies on Saturday, including former Tennessee safety Will Brooks.
Brooks played at Vestavia Hills High School, where he was an honorable-mention All-State selection in 2018 and a second-team pick in 2019. Brooks also was a lacrosse standout for the Rebels.
Brooks walked on at Tennessee in 2020, and he made his first start in the 2023 regular-season finale. Brooks started every game in 2024, finished second on the Volunteers with 59 tackles and made four interceptions, including one in Tennessee’s 42-17 loss to Ohio State in the College Football Playoff on Dec. 21.
Kansas City is holding its rookie minicamp this weekend. In addition to the 16 newly signed rookies and the seven players picked by the Chiefs in last week’s NFL Draft, the minicamp includes 64 other players, most attending on a tryout basis.
The tryout players include former UAB linebacker Michael Moore.
Former Samford quarterback Chris Oladokun also is participating even though he is on the Kansas City roster. Oladokun has spent most of the past three seasons on the Chiefs’ practice squad. He played in one regular-season game last year.
