Former Alabama prep standout ejected from NFL game
Former Saraland High School standout Cor’Dale Flott was one of the players disqualified after a dustup in the New York Giants-Washington Commanders game on Sunday.
The trouble started on a touchdown run by Commanders quarterback Sam Howell on a 7-yard run with 1:32 left in the first half.
Former Alabama standout Xavier McKinney, a New York safety, met Howell at the goal line with a hard hit. McKinney knocked Howell back, but not down. Howell had scored, but he continued to try to get into the end zone, and McKinney continued to try to keep him out, ultimately pushing the Commanders QB down out of bounds.
The post-whistle action brought a passel of players running to the area, and Flott kept Curtis Samuel from reaching McKinney by shoving away the Washington wide receiver, although Commanders offensive tackle Charles Leno Jr. did make it through to confront the New York safety.
More players arrived with more pushing and shoving and holding back. But when the officials sorted out what happened, Flott and Samuel were the players disqualified from further participation.
Flott left the game with two tackles and a forced fumble. McKinney recovered the fumble at the Washington 45 in the first quarter. Two snaps later, the Giants scored the game’s first touchdown.
An All-State selection at Saraland in 2018, Flott was a third-round draft choice from LSU in 2022. A hamstring injury caused Flott to miss the first three games of the 2023 season, but he’s been playing regularly at slot corner since returning and had the first interception of his NFL career last week in the Giants’ 49-17 loss to the Dallas Cowboys.
