Former Alabama prep kicker gets $16.5 million contract extension in NFL
Evan McPherson earned the nickname “Money Mac” with his ability to make big field goals for the Cincinnati Bengals. Now the money part of that moniker can be taken literally.
The Bengals and the former Fort Payne High School standout have agreed on a three-year, $16.5 million contract extension, the Cincinnati Enquirer and NFL Network reported on Friday. The contract could keep the kicker with the Bengals through the 2027 season.
McPherson had one season remaining on the four-year, $3.824 million contract that he signed after joining Cincinnati as the 149th selection in the 2021 NFL Draft. McPherson became eligible for an extension after completing three NFL seasons, and he would have been an unrestricted free agent next offseason without a new deal.

McPherson has made 78-of-93 field-goal attempts and 126-of-132 extra-point tries in 49 regular-season games for Cincinnati. In seven playoff games, McPherson had made all 19 of his field-goal attempts.
With 21, McPherson has made 13 more field goals of 50 or more yards thanany other player in the Bengals’ history, and he’s tied for the most 50-yarders in the NFL since he entered the league in 2021 – and that doesn’t include his three postseason 50-yarders. McPherson set the record for the longest field goal in franchise history when he hit a 59-yarder in a 23-20 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sept. 11, 2022.
Last season, McPherson made all 59 of his kicks from inside 50 yards, with 19 field goals and 40 extra points. He went 7-of-12 on field-goal attempts of 50 or more yards in 2023.
At Fort Payne, McPherson made a 60-yard field goal and got off an 84-yard punt. He completed his prep career by kicking in the 2018 Under Armour All-American Game before playing three seasons at Florida.
