Former Alabama OT Kadyn Proctor commits to Iowa out of transfer portal
Former Alabama football offensive tackle Kadyn Proctor is on the way back to his home state. Proctor committed to Iowa out of the transfer portal on Saturday.
Proctor announced the news on his social media, alongside Hayes Fawcett of On3 Sports. He had started every game at left tackle for the Crimson Tide in 2023.
The 6-foot-7, 360-pound Proctor had been committed to the Hawkeyes during his recruitment, before flipping to the Crimson Tide. He was a five-star prospect in the class of 2023 out of Southeast Polk.
As a true freshman, Proctor competed for the starting job along with Elijah Pritchett. Though he had his struggles early in the season, he improved by the end, cementing himself as the main player at left tackle.
“He’s getting better,” former Alabama coach Nick Saban said of Proctor in November. “He’s playing better. He has more confidence. I think he knows what to do, and because of that confidence, he — he was apprehensive sometimes about doing what he was supposed to do even when he knew what he was supposed to do. All of that comes with confidence.”
He ended the year making the freshman all-SEC team, voted on by the league’s coaches.
Proctor joins an Iowa team that is currently without an offensive coordinator. Brian Ferentz was fired after the 2023 season due to several abysmal years from the unit, and his father, Iowa head coach Kirk Ferentz, has not hired a replacement yet.
Proctor was part of a flurry of portal exits when Saban retired and Kalen DeBoer was hired as Alabama’s new head coach. The retirement opened up a 30-day window for Crimson Tide players to enter the transfer portal.
