Former Alabama Mr. Baseball wins MLB monthly award
Baltimore Orioles shortstop Gunnar Henderson is the American League Player of the Month for March/April, Major League Baseball announced on Friday.
In the first 29 games of the season, Henderson batted .291 with a .624 slugging percentage. He had 25 runs, 10 home runs, 24 RBIs and six stolen bases.
Los Angeles Dodgers infielder Mookie Betts was the National League Player of the Month for March/April.
Henderson won the Alabama Mr. Baseball Award for 2019 while playing for Morgan Academy in Selma. The Orioles selected Henderson in the second round of the 2019 draft.
Last season, Henderson became the 13th player to win the American League Jackie Robinson Rookie of the Year Award by unanimous vote. He also became the 13th rookie to win a Silver Slugger Award. Henderson won the American League Silver Slugger for utility players as he started 68 games at third base, 64 games at shortstop and 11 at designated hitter in 2023.
