Former Alabama jail worker charged with drug trafficking in contraband probe

A Morgan County jail employee has been arrested as part of what the sheriff’s office calls an ongoing narcotics investigation into jail contraband.

On Wednesday, the sheriff’s Drug Enforcement Unit executed a search warrant on a residence in the 1800 block of College Street in Decatur.

According to investigators, they found fentanyl, amphetamine and marijuana.

Deborah Terrell, 42, Decatur, has been charged with drug trafficking, drug possession and marijuana possession. She is no longer employed at the Morgan County Jail, according to the sheriff’s office.

Also arrested was Lester Bufkin, 44, of Decatur. He faces charges of drug trafficking, drug possession and marijuana possession.

The two were released on $11,300 bond.

According to the sheriff’s office, additional arrests are possible.
