Former Alabama golfer earns his first PGA Tour victory
Former Alabama All-American Davis Riley scored his first PGA Tour victory on Sunday when he teamed with Nick Hardy to win the Zurich Classic of New Orleans.
Playing alternate shot in the final round, Riley and Hardy closed with a 7-under-par 65 to set a tournament record with a four-round total of 30-under 258 at TPC Louisiana in Avondale.
Riley and Hardy won by two shots over Canadians Adam Hadwin and Nick Taylor. The winners started the final round trailing by three strokes on the leaderboard.
The winning team recorded five birdies in a seven-hole stretch on the back nine in the final round, capped by Riley’s 33-foot putt from the fringe for a birdie on the par-3 17th.
Riley’s previous best showing on the PGA Tour was a playoff loss in the Valspar Championship last year.
The victory also was the first on the PGA Tour for Hardy.
Each of the winning golfers earned $1.242 million in prize money.
They also earned exemptions for PGA Tour events through the 2025 season and became eligible for the next PGA Championship, Sentry Tournament of Champions and Players Championship.
The Zurich Classic features a best-ball format, with the lowest score on each hole counting for the team, in the first and third rounds and an alternate-shot format in the second and fourth rounds.
