Former Alabama forward putting injury-filled NBA season behind him

The NBA’s 2024-25 season will end on Sunday night, when the Indiana Pacers and Oklahoma City Thunder square off in Game 7 of the NBA Finals.

Brooklyn’s season ended on April 13, and Nets power forward Noah Clowney played his final game of 2024-25 on March 29.

“It’s a sense of relief almost,” Clowney said shortly after Brooklyn’s season was over. “I got time now to work on stability in places where I was having injuries – obviously, ankles, etc. – and a chance to better my game before we come back for next season, so that’s always good.”

Clowney made that remark to reporters with his right arm wrapped from the knuckles almost to the elbow. He said he had had a “minor procedure” on his wrist.

A first-round selection from Alabama in the 2023 NBA Draft, Clowney played in 46 of Brooklyn’s 82 games in his second season. Because of his injuries, Clowney had two stretches during the season when he missed seven games in a row and another in which he sat out 14 consecutive games. Clowney had just one span of playing in at least 10 games in a row.

As a rookie, Clowney had played in 23 games for Brooklyn and 34 for the Long Island Nets in the NBA Gatorade League. With Long Island, Clowney averaged 15.6 points, 8.2 rebounds and 1.8 blocked shots.

In his in-and-out second season, Clowney averaged 9.1 points and 3.9 rebounds in 22.7 minutes per game for Brooklyn.

“There’s nothing that can prepare you for playing in the league besides playing in the league, in my opinion,” Clowney said. “I think that now that I’ve got a lot more games under my belt, I’ve learned a lot more and I know how to approach this summer versus my first summer when I didn’t have as much experience and I was just trying to better myself with no clear direction as to where I was trying to go going into the summer.”

The Nets had a 26-56 record this season. Brooklyn has nine players under contract for the 2025-26 campaign, including Clowney and the Nets’ top four point producers.

Brooklyn has five of the 59 selections in the NBA Draft this week, more than any other team. The Nets are scheduled to pick eighth, 19th, 26th, 27th and 36th.
