Defensive back Shyheim Carter rejoined the Tennessee Titans’ roster on Tuesday while two other former Alabama players went on injured reserve in the NFL.

Carter joined Tennessee’s practice squad, the NFL team announced.

The New York Giants placed cornerback Aaron Robinson on IR after he suffered a knee injury, and the Cleveland Browns placed running back Jerome Ford on IR after he sustained an ankle injury. Both got hurt on Sunday.

Players on injured reserve must stay sidelined for a minimum of four weeks.

Each NFL team is allowed to elevate two practice-squad members for each game, making them eligible to play that week.

Carter went through the offseason program, training camp and preseason with the Titans before being waived on Aug. 22.

Carter entered the NFL as an undrafted rookie with the New York Jets in 2020. After being waived by the Jets at the end of training camp, Carter spent seven weeks on the Atlanta Falcons’ practice squad.

In 2021, the Houston Texans released Carter at the end of the preseason, then re-signed him for their practice squad, where he spent the first five weeks of the season. After his release on Oct. 12, Carter was out of the NFL until joining Tennessee’s practice squad in December.

Robinson started the Giants’ first and fourth games this season. In between, he was sidelined by an appendectomy. The knee injury occurred in the first quarter on Sunday.

The Giants added Robinson from UCF in the third round of the 2021 NFL Draft. He played 13 games at Alabama as a freshman in 2016 before transferring.

Robinson spent the first seven weeks of the 2021 season on reserve/physically unable to perform. He landed on the PUP list after having core-muscle surgery during training camp.

A fifth-round rookie, Ford’s participation was limited to special teams in the first four games of his NFL career. He has returned six kickoffs for an average of 24.2 yards in 2022.

Ford played his first two college seasons at Alabama. He ran for 37 yards on seven carries before being redshirted after four games in 2018, then had 114 yards and three touchdowns on 24 rushing attempts in 2019 before transferring to Cincinnati.
