Former Alabama corrections officer, wife allegedly conspired to smuggle drugs to inmates
A former Alabama Department of Corrections officer and his wife are accused of conspiring with inmates to take drugs into a state prison in exchange for pay.
Mario Grant, 32, is charged with use of official position for personal gain and conspiracy to commit a controlled substance crime, ADOC officials announced Tuesday.
His wife, Carole Grant, 31, is charged with conspiracy to commit a controlled substances crime.
Both have been released on bond from the Montgomery County Detention Center.
Grant at the time of the alleged crimes worked at Kilby Correctional Facility. He has since resigned his position, said ADOC spokeswoman Kelly Betts.
According to charging documents, the alleged crimes happened between July 2023 and September 2023.
Depositions state the couple received money from inmates via Cash App to bring drugs into the lockup. Records did not identify the illegal drugs.
Carole Grant, warrants state, received the payments from the inmates and then transferred that money to her husband.
The investigation is ongoing and additional charges could be filed.
