Former Alabama All-American announces retirement from professional golf
Former Alabama All-American Camilla Lennarth announced her retirement from professional golf on Friday via her Instagram account.
“The time has come to let you all know that my professional golf career has come to an end,” the 36-year-old wrote. “It has been on my mind for some time now. Dealing with injuries led me to this decision. And it has been the toughest decision yet in my life.
“I have had 13 unforgettable years on different worldwide golf tours. Thanks to golf, I have played the best courses in the world, competed against the best, made friends for life and traveled the world.
“I love this game so much and I will always hold it close to my heart. Knowing myself, I will practice and play anytime I get the chance.
“I want to thank everyone who has supported and endlessly believed in me throughout my amateur and professional career. Now it is time for a new chapter in my life. Let’s see what the exciting future has in store for me.”
Lennarth came from Sweden to play for the Crimson Tide and was a three-time All-SEC selection. She was the first Alabama women’s golfer to earn All-American recognition three times and still holds the program record for rounds played with 133.
Alabama won the SEC championship in 2010 with Lennarth. The Crimson Tide placed third in the NCAA tournament that season after finishing 11th in 2009 and before an eighth-place finish in 2011.
Lennarth started her professional career on the Symetra Tour in 2012, and she spent most of her professional career playing on the Ladies European Tour, which she joined in 2013. Lennarth played in 131 LET tournaments, with a victory in the Ladies Slovak Open in 2014.
Lennarth also played on the LPGA, appearing in 19 tournaments from 2018 through 2020.
