Former 5-star QB Julian Sayin becomes the latest Bama transfer to pick Ohio State
Julian Sayin is reuniting with Bill O’Brien at Ohio State. The former five-star quarterback announced his transfer on Sunday afternoon.
Sayin, who enrolled with Alabama early and participated during Rose Bowl practices, is the third transfer to pick the Buckeyes, joining center Seth McLaughlin and safety Caleb Downs. O’Brien, who recently joined OSU as offensive coordinator, recruited Sayin to Tuscaloosa.
Sayin told ESPN’s Pete Thamel about his decision to transfer. He will enroll ahead of spring practice. Sayin entered the portal on Jan. 19, nine days after Nick Saban announced his retirement.
Sayin, a native of Carlsbad, California, was a five-star prospect. Alabama’s new head coach Kalen DeBoer brought in Austin Mack, his quarterback recruit from Washington, via the portal on Friday. Alabama’s quarterback room for next fall includes returning starter Jalen Milroe, backup Ty Simpson and freshman Dylan Lonergan.
More than 25 Tide players have entered the portal since the season ended on Jan. 1. Ten scholarship players have explored futures elsewhere since Saban’s decision.
