Former 5-star Domani Jackson commits to Alabama over Michigan
Alabama football added another former five-star to its defense via the transfer portal.
On Thursday night, Southern California defensive back Domani Jackson committed to the Crimson Tide. He announced his decision on social media hours after visiting Alabama’s Rose Bowl practice at Dignity Health Sports Park.
Jackson is a defensive back from Santa Ana, Calif. He has two years of eligibility remaining. He reportedly chose UA over Michigan, the Tide’s College Football Playoff semifinal opponent.
Jackson is rated as the No. 25 corner in 247Sports transfer rankings. As a prospect, Jackson was the second-best cornerback in the class of 2022 and the 15th-best player overall. Alabama was among the three dozen schools to offer Jackson and comprised his final three along with the Trojans and Wolverines.
Jackson appeared in 11 games this fall for USC, making 33 total tackles while deflecting four passes. At 6-foot-1, 190 pounds, Jackson provides another body for Alabama’s secondary that’s set to lose multiple starters including boundary cornerbacks Kool-Aid McKinstry and Terrion Arnold.
LT Overton, a former five-star defensive lineman, transferred from Texas A&M on Dec. 5. As Nick Saban has stated in the past, Alabama looks toward the portal when it has needs on the top end of its depth chart. After losing multiple NFL Draft picks ahead of 2023, Alabama brought in seven defensive backs.
Alabama now has five defensive backs joining the 2024 roster: Jackson and high school prospects Jaylen Mbakwe, Zabien Brown, Peyton Woodyard, Rydarrius Morgan and Dre Kirkpatrick Jr.
