Ford recalls more than 1 million cars over brake hose issue
Ford is recalling more than 1.2 million vehicles over a serious issue with its brake fluid hoses.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said Ford Fusions and Lincoln MKZs sold between 2013 and 2018 have an issue with the front brake hoses, which may rupture and leak brake fluid.
“A brake fluid leak will increase brake pedal travel and extend the distance needed to stop the vehicle, increasing the risk of (a) crash,” the NHTSA said.
The leak can reduce the brake pedal’s responsiveness and slow deceleration, increasing the risk of crash, per the report.
An estimated 2 percent of the 1.28 million vehicles carry the defect, the NHTSA report stated.
Owners will be notified about the recall in letters, the agency said. Dealers will replace the front brake hoses, free of charge.
Owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332, and ask about recall 23S12, or contact the NHTSA at 1-888-327-4236.
Ford said the brake fluid indicator light may come on, and drivers may feel a difference in the pedal’s feel and travel. Ford is aware of one accident related to the issue, but knew of no injuries.
