Ford is recalling 550,000 pickup trucks because of a transmission issue
Ford is recalling 550,000 pickup trucks because transmissions can suddenly downshift to first gear.
According to a notice from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the recall covers 2014 F-150 vehicles due to a loss of signal between the transmission output shaft speed sensor and the powertrain control module which can cause the transmission to unexpectedly downshift into first gear, regardless of vehicle speed.
Unexpectedly downshifting into first gear may cause drivers to lose control of the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
Ford Dealers will update the powertrain control module software free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 1. Owners of the vehicles may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford’s number for this recall is 24S37.
In a statement Tuesday, Ford said it expects repairs to be available in the third quarter of this year, according to the Associated Press. Owners will be able to use mobile service or pickup and delivery at participating dealers to get their vehicles repaired.
