For first time, In-N-Out is closing a location: âOngoing issues with crimeâ cited
In-N-Out is closing a location for the first time in the iconic restaurant chain’s history.
NBC News reported the location near the Oakland International Airport in California has been open for almost two decades but will shut down March 24. According to the report, while several locations have been relocated, the Oakland store is the first to completely close in the chain’s 75-year-history.
Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick said in a statement to NBC News the closure is due to an increase in crime.
“We feel the frequency and severity of the crimes being encountered by our customers and associates leave us no alternative,” Chief Operating Officer Denny Warnick said in a statement Tuesday. “Despite taking repeated steps to create safer conditions, our customers and associates are regularly victimized by car break-ins, property damage, theft and armed robberies.”
Warnick said the restaurant is “busy and profitable,” but it cannot ask customers or employees to work “in an unsafe environment.”
There are just under 400 In-and-Out restaurants in seven states, mostly in California.
