Football recruiting update: Commitments, SEC offers and more highlight week

Several state players committed to play college football while others earned offers from a variety of schools.

Two McGill-Toolen players announced commitments. Shemar Welch committed to Louisiana while Will Miles committed to Navy.

Welch is a 3-star 5-11, 160-pound senior defensive back, who recently narrowed his list to a top four of Tulane, Arkansas State, Troy and Louisiana before naming the Ragin Cajuns as his choice.

Miles, a senior 6-3, 215-pound tight end, also had an offer from Birmingham-Southern.

South Alabama has been very busy over the past few days with commitments that include Mary G. Montgomery’s Jared Hollins, Austin’s Achilles Wood, Goshen’s Jamauri McClure and Foley’s Logan Joellenbeck.

Bibb County’s Trashun Griffin committed to Georgia Tech. The 3-star 6-foot-4, 240-pound senior linebacker chose the Yellow Jackets over Mississippi State, West Virginia, Maryland, Cincinnati, Memphis, UAB, Troy and more.

Faith Academy’s Ty Goodwill chose Louisiana over Arkansas State, Troy, Marshall, Liberty and more. Goodwill is a senior 6-2, 192-pound DB/WR.

Senior 6-foot, 189-pound wide receiver Myron Dunklin of Saraland committed to North Alabama.

OFFERS

Senior 3-star Derrick Butler of Davidson added Appalachian State to the list that includes Ole Miss, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Central Florida, Tulane, East Carolina, Southern Miss, UAB, Troy, Jacksonville State and more for the 6-foot, 185-pound running back.

The state’s top-rated kicker, Towns McGough of Auburn High School, picked up his first two SEC offers with Auburn and Tennessee after previous offers from Austin Peay and Southeast Missouri.

The 6-foot, 175-pound senior is rated a 5-star kicker and the No. 5 kicker in the nation along with the state’s top ranking.

Mae Jemison’s Hezekiah Harris added to his impressive list with an Alabama offer. The 6-5, 220-pound OLB/Edge Class of 2026 recruit transferred from Anniston during the offseason.

Previous offers include Auburn, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Penn State, Florida State, Louisville and UAB.

Landon Duckworth of Jackson continues to impress, Florida becoming the latest offer among a list that includes Arkansas, Mississippi State, South Carolina, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt, Nebraska, TCU, Troy and Central Florida.

The 6-3, 187-pound quarterback is a sophomore.

Pike Road’s TK Norman received his first SEC offer from Vanderbilt. The 6-foot, 170-pound junior receiver also has offers from UAB and Eastern Kentucky.

South Alabama offered Pelham’s William Felton, a senior 6-3, 225-pound linebacker, who also has offers from North Alabama, Richmond, Stetson and Alabama State.

Greenville Class of 2025 DB/WR BJ Bedgood earned two offers in the past week with UAB and Alabama State.
