Football, homecoming activities suspended at Alabama high schools after fight

Pike County High School and Headland High School have suspended football operations “until further notice,” according to posts from both schools.

A fight broke out on the field as both teams played in Brundidge Friday night. Reportedly, multiple players protested a hard hit by a Headland player. The Pike County player that was tackled during play appeared to collapse on the sidelines and was taken off the field by Pike County coaching staff members, WTVY reported.

After a short attempt to resume play, a fight broke out. The game ended abruptly. The receiver who was hurt later appeared to be alert, Pike County principal Jeff Torrence told the Dothan Eagle newspaper later.

Henry County’s Headland High and Headland Middle are suspending all football, including JV and middle school, while the Alabama High School Athletics Association investigates the situation.

Similarly, Pike County is suspending its high school football.

“All homecoming events are currently on pause” as well at Pike County High. The school will continue with dress up days.

So far this season, several other high schools have dealt with disruptions to play, including a disruption in the stands in Mobile and students rushing the field in Madison County.
